Zim diaspora chamber to train one million Zimbabwean to become own business masters

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News)---THE Zimbabwe Diaspora Development Chamber (ZDDC) , particularly South Africa is hoping to train one million people who are now living outside the country, and create 200 000 new businesses, in a move aimed at helping resuscitate the economy back home.

ZDDC treasurer and economist Luke Zunga, said on Tuesday the pilot project was underway in South Africa and proving popular with the Zimbabwean exiles, who have shown a willingness to contribute to the future development of their country.

He said more than 1 000 Zimbabweans in the Diaspora have attended the initial training programme that kick started last month (April).

“We aim to train one million Zimbabweans in the Diaspora and create 200 000 new businesses. The training provides understanding that the Zimbabwean Diaspora issue is a permanent feature, the same as we find Indians, Jews and Chinese all over the world.

“The training provides understanding of key economic issues and motivates people to start own businesses where they are. While there are many hurdles, we teach how to remove them. The training positions Zimbabweans in the Diaspora to develop themselves and plan for the development of Zimbabwe,” said Zunga.

He added: “In this project, the Zimbabwean exiles will be a major factor in a future of the country, able to mobilise resources and influence developmental challenges. Anyone whose history has anything to do with Zimbabwe, black or white, qualifies to join the chamber.  So far it is successful and growing.”

He said Zimbabweans had to shift their mindset from dwelling in violence against perceived state enemies but rather focus on reviving the tattered economy.

“The training is on how to get out of this mess. We believe that Zimbabwe’s long-term recovery will come through the Diaspora processes. Conclusively, the problem of Zimbabwe is Zimbabweans themselves, by being individualistic and failing to act on a collective plan,” said Zunga.

ZDDC is the development arm of Global Zimbabwe Forum, which comprises six regions in the world, namely Australasia, Americas, the United Kingdom, Central Europe, South Africa and SADC (outside South Africa but not in Zimbabwe)–CAJ News.
