Amakhosi launch new sitcom
BY FOLOSI KANDABA
BULAWAYO - Amakhosi Arts is launching a new television series in the next few weeks.

It centres around the lives of two cousins: Seven colours (Israel Mthombeni), a mime artist, and Mporodo (Leonard Phiri), a woodcutter who survives on poaching firewood and reselling it to people. The two are raised by Gogo Mamdaka in a two-roomed house, which they inherit when their grandmother passes away.

The drama kicks off when Seven colours returns from seven years in South Africa. He flees the xenophobic attacks and returns home to find his cousin renting his room to Baby Giant (Titibele Khumalo), is a musician by day and security officer by night, as well as Seven colour’s long lost girlfriend who spent his money, dumped him and crossed the boarder. Seven colours had gone to South Africa to kill her but his search was in vain and he becomes a mime artist.

In one of the scenes, Seven colours explains why he fled South Africa to his cousin. Mporodo strongly reprimands him for not bringing the so called xenophobia home so he could sell it along with his fire wood because locals love South African products.

“We could not continue with Sinjalo after the deaths of two of the main actors Mackeys and Taurai so we thought of creating this new sitcom but with a similar concept as that of Sinjalo,” Director of Amakhosi, Cont Mhlanga said.

Studio 263 actors find new home

HARARE – Three actors from Studio 263 have found a rebound to resuscitate their acting careers. They are part of a new film, Thicker than blood. Revlino Gwanzura, Tapuwa Mavundidze and Denzel Burutsa, who starred as Mr Black, Vee Jay and Jabulani Jari in the Godwin Mawuru production, have found a new home. Studio 263 made an unceremonious exit from the small screen after the production team had contractual disagreements with ZBC.

“I am now part of the Thicker than blood cast. Studio 263 is a thing of the past. Even though I had been fired from the production house I hope that it bounces back,” Denzel said.

“We took it from the common saying that blood is thicker than water and changed it to money is thicker than blood after noting that in today’s society many will sacrifice their kith and kin for the love of money,” producer, Noel Mvura, said.

The story is based on the lives of three brothers who meet mixed fortunes in life. The eldest brother is a successful businessman, the second is honest and hard working and the third is crooked. Denzel Burutsa plays the third brother. Due to his crooked ways, his older brothers exclude him from their business dealings. When the eldest brother falls sick and has to have a kidney transplant, the second brother goes to the hospital, intending to donate one of his. He is told that his are too small to save his brother. Burutsa is his brother’s only chance. When approached for the first time he refuses, then reconsiders after plotting to use the donation as a way of gaining his brothers’ trust.

After the transplant Burutsa is given an influential post in the company but he does not change his wicked ways.
