Three of them – 1958, 1980, 1985 – were turning points, showing a pattern that will end with the crowning of Emperor Napoleon Muggerparte on Friday.
Because as from then, Robert Mugabe and a small group of military and military minded politicians, the CIO and police, will be in power for the next five years, unless God does us a favour. He is about to create a Dynasty.
Watch out for Robert Mugabe Jr. when the old bastard finally bites the dust.
In June 1958 – exactly fifty years ago – the liberal dream of Garfield Todd crashed following the narrow victory of the United Federal Party (UFP) and installation of Sir Edgar Whitehead as Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia.
Black moderates -men like Nathan Shamuyarira, Stanlake Samkange, Enoch Dumbutshena and Leopold Takawira, turned away from white liberals and moved towards black nationalists led by Joshua Nkomo, James Chikerema and George Nyandoro.
The following year, over 500 nationalists were arrested. It was an election that led to the rise to power of the Dominion Party, the installation of Ian Smith as prime Minister and UDI in 1965.
* 1958 marked the end of a liberal dream for Southern Rhodesia.
In February 1980, the colony’s first one man-one vote election took place.
Monitors were ordered to ignore Robert Mugabe’s massive intimidation of headmen and villagers on the suggestion of Lord Soames who danced to a tune played by Margaret Thatcher who washed her hands of the Rhodesian problem. Mugabe won 57 of the 80 seats open to Africans.
* 1980 marked the end of white power in Rhodesia and paved the way for the creation of Zimbabwe.
After treating Europeans (especially farmers) like so much Royal Game, Mugabe was shattered to find that whites voted for Ian Smith in the 1985 election.
In cold fury, he sacked Denis Norman (Minister of Agriculture) from the Cabinet and told Europeans that the derma of Reconciliation was over.
He privately thanked tame white leaders for keeping quiet while he and his North Korean trained thugs wiped out 30,000 men women and children in Matabeleland. When he’d finished terrorizing Zapu, the remnants of Zipra and Joshua Nkomo he brought the old man into his Cabinet where he stayed mute and harmless until the end of his life.
* 1985 ended White-Zanu(PF) co-operation.
The fourth and last election will be on Friday. Mugabe will run against himself. The long stuggle for freedom in Zimbabwe will end with an 84 year monster of a man engaging in a masturbation contest against him.
He has hammered the opposition into the grave. He has what he always wanted – a one party state – land in the hands of those he controls and a terrified population begging for a mercy. Then will come the National Funeral that no-one will be allowed to attend. The mourners -the people of Zimbabwe – will be ordered once again to dance on the graves of those who loved them the most.
June 2008 the fourth election and a funeral – the funeral of national hope.

Four elections and a funeral
by Trevor Grundy
There have been numerous elections in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe since the colony became self - governing in 1923.
