Greetings from the Student Christian Movement of Zimbabwe.
We are filled with great sadness as we write to you about the operations of Giesecke and Devrient, a well-known German company. It has come to our attention that G&D has been printing trillions and trillions of Zimbabwe dollars for the Government of Zimbabwe. As young students and youth we are deeply concerned that the money that G&D prints for the Zimbabwean government is used to sponsor violence and pay off unemployed youth militia who are orchestrating the escalating violence in the country.
Zimbabwe’s economy is in tatters. Critical social services have collapsed. Schools, hospitals and universities have stopped operating normally, yet Zimbabwe’s leaders pay G&D 500,000 Euros every week.
We therefore write to ask the German people who have been great friends of Zimbabwe, to help pressure G&D to stop acting in complicity with the illegitimate government of Robert Mugabe. To the Directors of G&D : please remember that the sheets of currency you print for ZANU PF do not improve the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans. Instead, G&D contributes to propping up an illegitimate government, enriches corrupt politicians and rewards merchants of violence, torture and death.
Zimbabwe is on the brink of disaster and we believe that the people of Germany can help us stop this by convincing German companies like G&D to stop collaborating with murderous regimes.
