ZEC said had he had garnered 85.57 of the votes cast in an internationally-condemned poll. His opponent, Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew after many of his supporters were killed and hundreds of thousands displaced
in state-sponsored violence that has gripped the whole country since Mugabe lost to Tsvangirai in the March 29 election.
According to ZEC, 42 percent of the electorate voted last friday. Polling stations in the urban areas recorded very few votes while thousands of voters were frog-marched to vote in rural areas.
