Nguni denies speaking against Mugabe

HARARE - The Zanu (PF) MP-elect for Mhondoro-Mubaira, Sylvester Nguni, has denied that he was interviewed by a reporter for The Zimbabwean of June 5 2008 article headlined, "Nguni, Mzembi and Kaukonde speak out against Mugabe."

A letter from Nguni’s lawyers says the politician denies having been “a beneficiary of looting and pillaging of state resources during Mugabe’s tenure” as stated in the article.

He was also quoted as expressing concern for hardships faced by ordinary people, a wish to return to Zimbabwe’s glory days of the 1980’s and concern over Mugabe’s hold on power.

“There was no such interview,” say Nguni’s lawyers. “Mr. Nguni’s good name is very important to him, his family, his constituents, and the citizens of Zimbabwe whom he served as an elected public official.”

Our reporter has been forced underground and until we are able to communicate with him directly, The Zimbabwean is not in a position to state categorically whether any interview took place.
