Police search Tendai Biti’s house

Mr Tendai Bitis’ lawyers, on Saturday got a High Court order compelling the police to bring Mr Biti to court today, Monday June 16 2008, so that he can be formally charged. Police have failed to do so, which is in direct contravention of the said court order. The Mugabe regime has for the past two months been threatening to arrest Mr Tendai Biti, which presupposed they had what it would take to charge Mr Biti. 

This failure police to bring Mr Biti to court clearly indicates that the charge of treason on Mr Biti is ludicrous, frivolous and vexatious.  The latest move by the police to search Mr Biti’s house is nothing but harassment and clearly the police are on fishing expedition.

The arrest and continuous detainment, without charge, of Mr Biti is clearly maliciously politically motivated. Mr Biti is an indispensable asset of the MDC and detaining him, the Mugabe regime hopes to frustrate the election campaign of the MDC.
