Zanu (PF) - a luxury we cannot afford

Emmerson Mnangagwa  (Mugabe's election agent) says if his boss loses the run-off he will leave office.    Dare we dream that this might be true?  Dare we dream that on June 27 Mugabe will behave democratically?

All the signs state the opposite.  Mugabe himself says he would never, never ever allow Morgan Tsvangirayi to lead Zimbabwe. Last week, the first shopper, Grace Mugabe added her  own tuppence worth, saying:  “we will never leave state house for Morgan.”
The message from the heads of the army, the police, airforce, CIO and even the prison guards  is the same: they say they would never salute anyone other than their chosen leader, regardless of who Zimbabweans elect on June 27.

All these people are addicted to power and to the luxurious life-style that goes with it.
We all know about Grace’s penchant for luxuries. We remember the time when she looted the housing fund to build her own mansion, which was then sold to the Cubans for a huge profit.
The couple have built their own 25-bedroomed palace in Borrowdale. They also own other houses in Harare, Zvimba and Nyanga. Is that not enough for Zimbabwe’s Emelda Marcos?
Now she says she won’t leave The State House.   We thought State House was government property. Surely, therefore, it belongs to whoever the people of Zimbabwe elect to lead them. It is not Zanu property. This is the problem with Zimbabwe today – Zanu (PF) is so senselessly greedy that it even thinks it can steal State House.

It is this greed that has finally turned the country against Mugabe.  We cant afford him any longer.   He and his cronies are too expensive to maintain. All our farms, mines and industries will never be enough to satisfy their voracious appetites for luxury. That has been proven beyond a shadow of doubt.
The looting from state coffers has reached eye-watering proportions in the past decade and, robust though our economy was, it simply cannot take it any more.
With inflation now over one million percent officially, and probably nearer two million, Zanu (PF) has finally come face-to-face with an enemy it cannot thrash or terrorise into submission.
The only answer lies in internationally-observed democratic elections that will return an  undisputed result that accurately reflects the will of the people – to whom the country and its resources, including State House, rightfully belong.
