London Rally for work permits

LONDON - Exiles are holding a rally in London on Friday July 11 to press for temporary access to work for all Zimbabweans regardless of status, scholarships, and work placements in government departments for skilled or semi-skilled refugees from the Mugabe regime.

The programme starts at 11.30 am at St. Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey. The Archbishop of York, the Most. Rev. John Sentamu, will hold a service starting at noon. The rally and walk to the Home Office, Parliament Square and South Bank follows at 1.30 pm.

“This is our show as Zimbabweans. Let us send a strong message,” said Jaison Matewu, MDC Organising Secretary, UK and Ireland. “We need every Zimbabwean for this action to be effective. Be there; bring the Zimbabwean flag; smart dressing is encouraged!”

The rally is part of a campaign titled “Strangers into Citizens” calling for a “pathway to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who have been resident in the UK for many years.
