Message of Solidarity to the Church In Zimbabwe

MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY TO THE CHURCH IN ZIMBABWE

We, the Catholic Commissions for Justice and Peace in countries of IMBISA (Interregional Meeting of Bishops of Southern Africa), meeting at Mazenod Conference Centre in Maseru, Lesotho, from 20-26 July 2008, deliberating on the theme " Lobbying and Advocating for Good Governance for Development in the light of Reconciliation Justice and Peace, are aware of the situation in Zimbabwe.

We note the suffering of Zimbabweans; we appreciate their resilience in the face of hardships and acknowledge all genuine peace initiatives that are taking place. We therefore urge all individuals, groups and countries to support efforts of peaceful settlement and ask them in the meantime to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in whatever way and wherever they are.

We urge all those negotiating for peaceful settlement to accept nothing falling short of the best for Zimbabweans.

We wish to convey our condolences to those who lost members of their families and friends, those who left their country and even those who got injured during this difficult episode. We are with you in prayer.

We promise all the people of Zimbabwe our filial love and support.
