Murdered MDC driver laid to rest

Murdered MDC driver laid to rest

Murdered MDC driver, Joshua Bakacheza, whose decomposed body was found abandoned at a farm in Beatrice, was buried during a sombre mood at the Banket cemetery yesterday.

Thousands of residents in the area defied threats of arrest and beatings by the police, State security agents and Zanu PF thugs in the area to attend Bakacheza’s burial.

The MDC vice-president, Hon. Thokozani Khupe and national organising secretary Hon. Elias Mudzuri were among several senior MDC officials who attended the burial.

Bakacheza’s decomposed body was found in the Beatrice farming area a week ago after 16-armed men had abducted him and another MDC activist, Tendai Chidzivo in Msasa, Harare in June.

Chidzivo is currently recovering in intensive care after he was shot on the head.

Hon. Khupe described Bakacheza, 28, as a promising young man who was determined to see the suffering of the people come to an end.

“However, his fight against the oppression of the people of Zimbabwe by the Zanu PF regime has been sadly cut short by the brutal regime,” she said.

“But the vision of this true Zimbabwean revolutionary will continue until the people of Zimbabwe are free from Zanu PF oppression,” she said.

Hon. Khupe also bemoaned that the death of Bakacheza had come at a time when negotiations were taking place between the MDC and Zanu PF.

“Zanu PF’s brutal acts such as the callous murder of Bakacheza show that the regime is not sincere in the dialogue process,” the MDC Vice President said.

A total of 120 MDC activists have been slain by Zanu PF and State security agents since the defeat of Zanu PF at the 29 March harmonised elections.–
