Video proof of rigging

LONDON - Video footage of voting intimidation has emerged in the hands of a former Zimbabwean prison guard.

Shepherd Yuda, 36, used a hidden camera provided by The Guardian to record his colleagues being forced to cast postal votes in the presence of war veteran Superintendent Shambira. The war veteran logged the votes against an identification number after ensuring the men voted for the leader of the military junta now ruling Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe.

Yuda, who has since fled Zimbabwe with his family, worked in the prison service for 13 years. When his uncle, an MDC supporter, was murdered, he decided to make a film to expose life inside Zimbabwean prisons. The film covers the week preceding the June 27 sham election where Mugabe was the only candidate.

Yuda filmed Tendai Biti, MDC General Secretary, in jail the morning of his hearing. Biti was smiling despite being held in leg irons. The footage also covers Zanu (PF) rallies where supporters are forced to claim illiteracy so officials could complete ballots on their behalf
