Jawet Kazangarare, the notorious Zanu (PF) war veteran responsible for spearheading the violent persecution of MDC supporters in the Hurungwe area, has been accused of raping Ella Ruvanga (13) prior to the June 27 run-off. The case was reported to the police at the Kazangarare Sub Office, but no action has been taken to date.
The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) manager, Homela, Zanu (PF) District Coordinator, Dr. Karonga and the Zanu (PF) MP for Magunje, Frank Ndambakuwa, have denied maize grain to the winning MDC councilor for Ward 11, Ruth Chinhanho, on the basis of being MDC. According to MDC officials, the woman was told she could have grain if she claimed allegiance to Zanu (PF). Frank Ndambakuwa, Peterson Kwenda’s murderer, threatened her with death, telling her that he would prefer to see her dead because she was an MDC member.
The MDC confirmed that the gun that Ndambakuwa used to threaten MDC supporters belongs to the GMB.
In Doro Clinic in the Nyamupfukudza Township, the nurse in charge, Bwanari, was assaulted on June 26 by Zanu (PF) youths for being an MDC supporter. According to MDC reports, a Zanu (PF) councilor known as Chakanyuka was in charge of the attacks. When Bwanari returned to her home, after fleeing to Kadoma for a month, Chakanyuka assaulted the woman again, this time seriously injuring her. With no nurse in the clinic, men and women in need of treatment are unable to get treatment and many have died as a result. The clinic is now on the verge of closure due to lack of medical personnel, with devastating effects on the community.
