MDC travel ban: A way of coercing agreement – Tsunga

The decision to temporarily deprive Morgan Tsvangirayi and Tendai Biti of their travel documents was so outrageous in its defiance of logic that no sensible person could have come to such a decision at this point in time in the history of Zimbabwe.

It is a very strong pointer to the possibility that the current determination is to coerce MDC into an “agreement” in order to sanitize the current regime rather than to genuinely negotiate to resolve the crisis of governance in Zimbabwe. It also tends to confirm that a political discussion that does not place a return to the rule of law at the center of resolving the Zimbabwe crisis is as inappropriate as it is too short term and bound to fail. This arbitrary and heavy handed behaviour which can only be possible where the rule of law has been overturned and the country is operating in a climate of impunity has to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
