We agree that the minimum demands set by
the MDC National Council for a Transitional Government must be met and must
reflect, at a very minimum, the outcome (even though we know it was highly
flawed and does not reflect the true vote of the People of Zimbabwe) of the
March 29 election as an absolute minimum. Executive power must rest with
President Tsvangirai. The composition of a Transitional Cabinet must reflect
the result of Parliamentary elections. Critical Ministries that touch the
lives of our people and the economy must be headed by elected MDC T members,
or we will not get the international assistance we so desperately require to
re-build our country.
We express our deep gratitude to President Tsvangirai and Secretary General
Biti for the courage and leadership they have displayed in the negotiations.
We commit ourselves to continuing our struggle to ensure that the eventual
outcome is a just outcome for the People that will lead to their full
freedom from the tyranny of ZANU PF rule. We must, under no circumstances,
betray those who have struggled and suffered heinously, many giving the
ultimate sacrifice, at this last hurdle in our honourable fight for freedom.
We believe that we have the full support of our African neighbours and the
wider International Community in the justness of our cause.
