Mapfumo Ditches ZTA

HARARE - Legendary Zimbabwean singer Thomas Mapfumo has become the third big act to ditch the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA)-organised Sanganai/Hlanganani Show scheduled for October 18 in Bulawayo.

Award-winning and United States based artiste Akon and top selling musician Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi have also snubbed the ZTA organised show in their bid to lure tourists.

Mapfumo’s management team denied that the Chimurenga guru would perform in Zimbabwe October 18. According to the itinerary released by his management team, Mapfumo is currently on tour of the United Kingdom. He performed in Leicester on Friday evening (26 September).

After Friday’s performance at the Starlight Leisure Centre in Leicester, Mapfumo performs at the Stratford Rex in London Saturday before his final show at the West Indian Centre in Leeds a day later.

Mapfumo leaves for South Africa shortly after his UK tour and will perform at Bassline in Johannesburg on October 5. The tour is Mapfumo’s first UK visit since the Easter Legends Tour with Oliver Mtukudzi.

Meanwhile Mtukudzi is on a tour of Australia. He will back in Zimbabwe after October 16. – Radio VOP
