Prime Minister-designate assesses situation at banks

Prime Minister-designate and MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai today toured several banks in Harare's central business district to assess the situation on the cash crisis affecting the country.

Thousands of people could be seen milling around banking halls in the city as they tried to withdraw their daily limits of $1 000, which is not enough for four minutes cellphone airtime.

The people some with young children and pregnant women are being forced to sleep outside the banking halls for a chance to withdraw their money.

The people told the Prime Minister-designate that although they were stressed, they hoped that he would get into government soon so that he could sort out the mess that has seen the near collapse of the economy.

MDC vice-president Hon. Thokozani Khupe and the Secretary of Information, Nelson Chamisa accompanied President Tsvangirai.
