Zimbabwe political leaders clinch deal

HARARE - Zimbabwe's political leaders agreed on Thursday a deal to
form a government of national unity and give the country the first
real opportunity in nearly 10 years to tackle a recession economic
experts say is the worst in the world.

South African President Thabo Mbeki, who spent months mediating

between President Robert Mugabe and his ZANU PF party, opposition MDC

party leader Morgan Tsvangirai and a breakaway MDC faction led by

Arthur Mutambara told reporters in Harare that the formal singing of

the deal will be on Monday in front of African leaders.

Mbeki said: We have concluded the negotiations, an agreement has

been reached. The formal signing will be done on Monday 10am. The

document will be released then.

The ceremony will be attended by regional and continental leaders.

The leaders will spend the next few days constituting the inclusive

government to be announced on Monday.

The leaders will work very hard to mobilise support for the people

to recover. We hope the world will assist so that this political

agreement succeeds. – ZimOnline
