‘amaBooks launches short story collection

BY STAFF REPORTER

BULAWAYO - Long Time Coming, the fourth book in the prize-winning series of short stories and poems from 'amaBooks, will be launched at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe on October 30.

Long Time Coming brings together short stories and poems from thirty-three writers who provide snapshots of this turbulent period in Zimbabwe’s history when basic services have crumbled. Shops have no food, taps no water, banks no money, hospitals no drugs, bars no beer, and yet people survive.

Against this tumultuous backdrop there are moments of hope when the rains come or a stranger returns a smile, and the characters find the strength to fight back.

The collection features work from first time authors such as Monireh Jassat, Fungai Rufaro Machirori, Linda Msebele, Peter Ncube and the more established voices of John Eppel, David Goodwin, Anne Simone Hutton, Ignatius Mabasa, Judy Maposa, Deon Marcus, Christopher Mlalazi, to name a few.  Writers from outside Zimbabwe who have contributed to the book are Peter Finch, Gothataone Moeng, Wame Molefhe, Lloyd Robson, Ian Rowlands and Owen Sheers.

The book provides insights into the current Zimbabwean consciousness. It is dynamic, real, seasoned with humour and bursting with creative writing.’ Chipo Chitonga, The Zimbabwean.
