British academia to donate books

LONDON - Academics across Britain are supporting a university book appeal to help deprived students in Zimbabwe.

The appeal was launched by Venancio Tauringana, a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance and former Zimbabwean resident. Tauringana wanted to help students in his home country who are unable to afford textbooks as Zimbabwe’s economy crumbles.

“Educated young people are our future. They will be the next generation of politicians, accountants, lawyers and business figures,” Tauringana said.

Tauringana contacted his colleagues for donations and has collected more that 1,000 books so far ranging from Business to Media to Nursing. The first shipment will be sent to Africa University, a Methodist-supported institution in Mutare. Marben Engineering has agreed to pay the packaging costs and half of the shipping.
