Power FM state radio station disc jockey Tafadzwa Sikwila, also known as DJ Squila, sustained serious head injuries on Saturday 25 October 2008 after being assaulted by four men alleged to be soldiers from the Zimbabwe National Army.  The reason for this assault has been reported as being that the men accused Sikwila of wearing army replica pants without authorization.

It is reported that Sikwila was bundled into a car by four men who drove off at a high speed towards the mining town of Shurugwi.  The four men, who it is alleged claimed to be soldiers, later threw Sikwila out of the moving vehicle resulting in him sustaining serious head injuries.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Inspector Andrew Phiri has confirmed that a report had been made and investigations were still underway.

MISA Zimbabwe position.

MISA Zimbabwe condemns the abduction of journalists or media personnel by any person as this reflects a lack of respect for the rule of law and the right of citizens to association as well as to freedom of expression. Provisions within the Defence Act

(Chapter 11:02), that prohibit wearing of camouflage material by civilians, whether Zimbabwean or from any other country is forbidden, remain inimical to freedom of expression and association.  In any event, where such prohibitions are existent, as is the case in Zimbabwe, they do not stipulate that a citizen found in violation of these must be tortured or abducted.
