EITHER A GOOD DEAL OR CIVIL WAR - THREATENS YOUTH MOVEMENT

Johannesburg: The Revolutionary Youth Movement (RYM) speaking at the African National Congress (ANC) headquarters in Johannesburg warned if the deal fails it will take up arms and dislodge Robert Mugabe who has been in power for nearly three decades.

The organisation made these revelations after handing in a petition to the ANC headquarters that was received by the party’s Secretary General Gwede Mantashe.

Mufaro Hove, patron of this youth formation said the required armaments were in place and would be used the time it became a reality that Mugabe would not cede some of the powerful ministries to rival Morgan Tsvangirai.

“What I can tell you is that we will fight with guns if this deal fails, we have tried everything including dialogue but Mugabe does not want to compromise even after losing elections,” said Hove.

Comments by the RYM are first of such kind to be made publicly by a Zimbabwean organisation showing growing signs of impatience with Mugabe’s dillydallying in the inclusive government negotiations as he intends to retain all important ministries.

President of the RYM, Simon Mudekwa addressing the picket said it was time former president Thabo Mbeki was released from the mediation process as he had proved in the past decade his failure to resolve the country’s impasse.

“We request that Mr Jacob Zuma as ANC President takes over the role of mediator in the Zimbabwean crisis as we feel he has gone to the extremes siding with the country’s octogenarian leader Robert Mugabe,” lamented Mudekwa.

The picket was among others attended by Movement for Democratic Change activists, Zimbabwe Exiles Forum, Peace and Democracy Project and National Constitutional Assembly of Zimbabwe.

Among others the NCA says unless a new people driven democratic constitution has been authored the people of Zimbabwe shall remain in dire state and will be pushed to the extremes that might bring the country to a standstill.
