Headmasters grab fashion day funds

HARARE - Headmasters have increased the regularity of fashion days in an attempt to line their pockets.

On fashion days children are expected to donate a stipulated amount of money to the school and children who wear their uniform on these days are required to pay double the amount.

Due to economic hardships some schools are calling for fashion days as many as three times a term. Parents have complained as their budgets can hardly meet the school fees and feed their families never mind this added expense. They have accused the headmasters and bursars of benefiting from the money.

School authorities are expelling children for not complying with the fashion day regulations. An official in the Ministry of Education, when asked for comment, said that fashion days were run to encourage children to dress smartly and provide an opportunity for schools to raise petty cash.
