Tuku and percussionist Namatai Mubariki thrill the audience with one of his signature dance moves

JOHANNESBURG- Wits University's Great Hall was abuzz in anticipation of the return to South Africa of the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits.

What better way to kick off the weekend than in the warm aura of Zimbabwe’s music maestro and his band, the Black Spirits. This year he not only turned 56 but he released his 56th album since the start of his music career, a milestone by any standard. While the band was sound checking the eager crowd which had begun streaming in from 7pm for an 8pm start was warming up with pre-drinks. What always impresses about the Tuku crowd is its diversity; there was an equally excited mix of race, nationality and age all drawn by one of Zimbabwe’s finest.
