Mujuru calls for tourism trade to play fair

HARARE - Second Vice President Joyce Mujuru has appealed to all tourism leaders to be fair if the country is to realise its potential growth.

Government is aware of the current challenges bedevilling some tourism related products. In this regard, we will continue to work with the players in the industry and indeed the rest of the economy, to find a lasting solution to the current pricing problems, she said.

[By] the same token, I urge the players in the tourism industry to charge reasonable prices that do not deter and discourage tourism.

She added that the tourism regulatory authorities should continue to engage the sector to come up with a mutually acceptable pricing formula that, while making the product affordable to both the local and international tourists, also allowed the industry to be viable.

Zimbabwe Tourist Authority Chief Executive Karikoga Kaseke told delegates at the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel and Tourism Africa Fair in Bulawayo that there were unscrupulous tourism players bent on destroying the country’s tourism.
