Putting down cultural roots

BY STAFF REPORTER

HARARE - The Schools Cultural Festival will take place at Roosevelt Girls High on October 31. Roosevelt Girls, Prince Edward High, Dominican Convent, Churchill Boys High and Girls High will showcase various cultural activities encompassing traditional dances, mbira ensembles, drama groups and poetry.

The event will also play host to invited guest artists, Alexio Kawara and Nasty Trix.

The event is being organised by Roosevelt music students in close cooperation with the Mbira Society Zimbabwe schools programme.

"It’s about time we start inculcating our cultural values from grassroots level. Most solutions for the problems that we have will come from our cultural fabric and this schools cultural festival is a shot in the right," Jeff Warara, Mbira Society Zimbabwe coordinator, said.
