Tsvangirai refuses Swati’s private plane

JOHANNESBURG - MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has snubbed the personal luxury of a private jet to Swaziland, instead calling for Harare regime to give him his passport as a sign of Zanu (PF)'s readiness to work with the MDC in an inclusive government.

A senior official within the party confirmed King Swati had offered Tsvangirai his private jet as the travel document he had been offered would not allow him to travel to Swaziland via South Africa.

Tsvangirai was expected in Swaziland today together with his chief negotiators Tendai Biti and Elton Mangoma to meet with Mugabe and Mutambara’s teams under the courtesy call of the SADC’s arm of defense and security chaired by King Swati 111.

Tendai Biti, MDC Secretary General said Tsvangirai and his party would only attend an extra ordinary SADC summit were all heads of state present, showing signs of impending collapse of an inclusive government.

Since Tsvangirai rightfully won the June run-off election, Zanu (PF) has fought to confine him to Zimbabwe, fearing that he would move around the region garnering for support if he had a passport.

“Our president has been kept in prison since June for defeating Mugabe, by denying him a passport Zanu (PF) is clearly showing that it is not ready to work with us, SADC should try to get into Zanu (PF) psyche and deliver a solution,” Biti said.

Meanwhile Biti has dismissed any coalition government that will leave the MDC without controlling the strategic finance ministry that decides the national expenditure through fiscal policy. This ministry will see for the first time in ten years defence ministry getting less budgetary allocation if the deal succeeds.

“It will be foolish to expect the MDC to get into this inclusive arrangement without controlling the ministry of finance,” Biti said.
