I am a business owner and I have been unable to purchase food for my staff for two weeks, a local man said.
Villagers are reportedly surviving on stolen sugarcane, and reports of children and women starving in the communal areas are on the increase.
Banks in the area are in trouble because of the withdrawal limits set by the Reserve Bank. Local businesses are no longer accepting cheque payments, choosing instead to take fuel or forex which most average Zimbabweans do not have. For those paid by cheque, their wages lose their value in the three days it takes them to register in bank accounts due to hyper inflation.
