War vets threaten hotel manager

HARARE - A group of war veterans threatened to beat up the manager of The Cresta Jameson Hotel on October 24 after he hiked prices for all drinks.

The war veterans said he had not been given authority by the National Incomes and Pricing Commission (NIPC) and told him to call Godwills Masimirembwa before they beat him up.

Drinks went up from Z$500 000 for a shot of vodka to Z$5 million and Z$45 million for a cup of tea.

The manager immediately reduced prices and asked for forgiveness. The war veterans demanded a free bottle of Scotch whisky which they downed before leaving. Jameson now charges cash for all drinks including tea and coffee.

The manager refused to comment on the issue but said he would report the war

veterans.

African Distillers Limited (AFDIS) is demanding payment from their customers in cash, resulting in the price of  all spirits soaring. The company has confirmed that all prices will shortly increase by 1 000 per cent. – Radio VOP
