Chaos and corruption in hospitals

GWANDA - Allegations have been made that Gwanda hospital blankets have been sold, and patients are being asked to bring their own when admitted to hospital.

A source revealed that some of the blankets were found at Timber farm in Tshindeni area, while some are believed to have been sold to locals in town.

The hospital bed linen is dry cleaned in Bulawayo and, owing to fuel supply shortages, more blankets have been donated to avert a health crisis at the institution.

There are also reports that patients are suffering from starvation as there is no food in the hospital with further reports of the mortuary project being in limbo due to embezzlement of project funds by some officials in the fundraising committee.

Nothing has been squandered and the mortuary developmental plans are underway, although at a snails pace, former hospital administrator, Chibvongodze said.

Efforts to obtain comment from the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare were unsuccessful.
