Gunmen shoot at MDC minister Nkomo

BY CHIEF REPORTER
HARARE - Gunmen shot at the vehicle of MDC shadow Home Affairs Minister Sam Sipepa-Nkomo on Tuesday as he travelled to Bulawayo from an MDC meeting in Harare.

Unknown gunmen on Tuesday shot twice at Mr Sipepa Nkomo’s Mercedes Benz E230 near Shangani. No-one was injured,” said a senior MDC official.

Nkomo, who was in the back seat with his wife, was being driven by fellow legislator Seiso Moyo when the passenger window of the car was shattered by a bullet. Nkomo instructed his colleague to continue driving as fast as he could.
The two MDC officials had been attending a meeting of the National Elections Directorate in Harare. Nkomo said he suspected it was an assassination attempt.

Police chief spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena said he was unaware of the incident but would make checks. A police spokesman in Shangani also said he had heard of no incident.

The MDC says more than 100 of its supporters have been killed in political violence since the March general elections.
