MDC execs to meet over Amendment No. 19

HARARE - The MDC national council and national executive will meet soon to deliberate on Constitutional Amendment No.19, which was agreed by the negotiators of the three main political parties in South Africa last week.

The two supreme bodies will put under the microscope three issues; the first being whether Constitutional Amendment No. captures the essence of what the MDC believes will be the best way forward in putting in place a transitional process to extricate Zimbabweans from their endemic poverty and suffering.
The second issue is on the time-frame of the gazetting of Constitutional Amendment No. 19 while the third issue will be what the MDC believes are outstanding matters on the equittable sharing of ministerial portfolios, the issue of governors, the composition and terms of reference of the National Security Council,  the issue of governors as well as the matter regarding the appointment of permanent secretaries,  ambassadors and other senior government officials.
The negotiators from the three parties are due to meet again in two weeks after all the parties have reported back to their political constituencies.
Constitutional Amendment No. 19 is expected to bring legality to the inclusive government that was signed by the three political parties in Harare on September 15.
Under the agreement, MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai will become Prime Minister.
