VICTORIA FALLS - A number of businesspeople have been arrested for selling goods in foreign currency without the correct licence.

Some traders had been refusing Zimbabwean dollars and local people, without access to foreign currency, had been forced into begging.

Chief Superintendent Peter Rwodzi said several arrests had been made and, if retailers continued to disobey the directive, the police would confiscate their goods.

There is an ongoing operation in town meant to clean it from unscrupulous traders who are putting the lives of ordinary residents in turmoil, he said. It was unfortunate that they were refusing to accept the local currency in any trading, rendering the local currency useless.

The raid targeted shops, street traders and bottle stores.
