It is unlikely that MDC Treasurer General and Deputy Minister of Agriculture designate Roy Bennett will appear in court today as earlier promised by the police. Police say the Prosecutor is still in Harare, 270 km from Mutare. Further, police approached the Magistrate and applied for and were granted permission to

Supt Makoni, the investigating officer in the matter has been summoned to Harare with Roy Bennett’s docket.

There are increasing signs that the police intend to remove Roy Bennett
from the police station where they are currently holding him. Hundreds
of of MDC supporters, members and ordinary Zimbabweans are maintaining
a watchful eye at and around the police station. They will spend their
forth night there.

It is vital that all parties to the Inclusive government conduct
themselves in a manner that gives confidence to this Inclusive
governent. The core issues are the creation of conditions conducive for
economic recovery and dismantling institutions of dictatorship.

We demand the immediate unconditional release of Roy Bennett, Jestina
Mukoko and now Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) leadership and members;
all political prisoners unharmed.

As these charges have no basis in law, and are driven by a vindictive
and malicious political vendetta against Roy Bennett, we demand that
they be dropped and we seriously embark on national healing.
