MDC Treasurer General and Deputy Minister of Agriculture designate Roy
Bennett was abducted and arrested just as the cabinet was being sworn
in. He was charged with treason, reportedly in relation to an alleged
2006 plot to overthrow Mugabe. The treason charges were then changed to
attempts to commit terrorism, banditry and sabotage, and conspiring to
acquire arms with a view to disrupting essential services. By Tuesday,
charges had changed again to illegal possession of weapons.
