Zanu PF circus delays swearing-in ceremony

MDC Pressroom--The Zanu PF circus today delayed the swearing-in ceremony of the inclusive government after Mr Robert Mugabe brought a bloated 22-member list of Cabinet ministers to the ceremony that was set to take place at State House today.

The 22-member bloated Cabinet list is in violation of the Global
Political Agreement and Constitutional Amendment 19 which entitle Zanu
PF to 15 Cabinet posts. Deputy ministers will only be sworn in next,
which means the 22-member list consists of prospective Cabinet
ministers.

The development comes amid reports of wide fissures and rifts in Zanu
PF over who should be a Cabinet minister as the traditional pasture of
patronage has dwindled due to the nature and composition of the
inclusive government.

At the time of writing, the swearing-in ceremony had not yet kicked off five hours after proceedings were scheduled to commence.

Proceedings were delayed after MDC leadership insisted that Mugabe
should stick to the GPA, which allows his party 15 Cabinet posts.

There is no official comment from Zanu PF over their latest circus,
which points to a serious crisis in the party whose fortunes
dramatically tumbled following the MDC’s historic victory in the
harmonized polls of 29 March 2009.

The decision to leave out the portfolios of the potential ministers
also points to back-stage chaos and confusion as the various camps
within Zanu PF seek to position their people in the inclusive
government.
