Last week Mhike told Newsreel the hearing on Monday would be a routine
remand proceeding to ascertain whether the accused had not absconded
and was ready to face trial. But state papers on the case which include
statements from witnesses, diagrams of the accident scene and other
relevant papers have still not been completed. A new date of April 20
has been set for the trial to begin. Some reports indicate that Prime
Minister Tsvangirai might be called to give evidence during the trial.
According to the state owned Herald newspaper, prosecutor John Hama
said because Tsvangirai was in the same vehicle as his wife his
testimony would be key in the trial.
