The farm workers told officials from the South African branch of the
Tsvangirai-led MDC formation that they were ready to return and help
rebuild Zimbabwe but were uncertain over their future after the arrest
of MDC treasurer Roy Bennett upon returning to Harare.
Please tell us how safe as it for people like us to go home when our
ministers like Roy Bennett are being arrested, denied bail and
harassed, asked one farm worker.
MDC chairman in South Africa Austin Moyo said that the dust was still
settling regarding the unity government and that the party was unable
at this early stage to say whether it would be safe for people to
return home.
MDC has been staging rallies since Saturday in farms around Burgesford area in Limpopo.
This is an on-going exercise by the local MDC leadership to explain to
Zimbabweans specific situations at home, said Sibanengi Dube, the
MDC's spokesman in South Africa.
Hundreds of Zimbabwean nationals are employed in farms in South Africa
after fleeing the economic and political crisis north of the Limpopo.
