BULAWAYO - Arthur Mutambara and Robert Mugabe have failed to effect genuine change for the impoverished people of Zimbabwe, said Job Sikhala, Defence and Security Secretary and former St Mary's MP, at an MDC rally in Makoni South last week.

As the battle for passing a vote of no confidence in the leader of the
Mutambara faction of the MDC gathers momentum, Sikhala said in a
statement that more than 4000 people flocked to hear.

Mutambara has been playing his cards close to his chest. He has chosen
to bring in the state apparatus and the Management Committee, where it
knows it is likely to get support since most members have benefited
from Mutambara’s patronage, he said in the statement.

Tensions within the MDC factions appear frayed as Sikhala took to the
stage and lambasted Mutambara and Mugabe for their failure to address
the needs of the poverty-stricken. He said the people had banned
Mutambara from setting foot in Makoni South. In an ironic twist, MDC
supporters praised the efforts of Welshman Ncube and even declared
Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga a national hero.

The crowd was given an opportunity to tell Sikhala about their dire
living conditions as a result of Zanu (PF) thugs looting their homes
during the election period. Sikhala vowed that he would push for
national healing and compensation for their lost belongings. He donated
money to enable residents to start a project to rebuild their broken
homes.

The people also expressed their objections to Parliamentarians imposing
a constitution on them, saying that they wanted to write their own
constitution.

It is understood Sikhala has been suspended from his party until the
matter has been brought before a disciplinary committee.
