Riksdag member Fredrik Schulte of the Swedish Moderate Party told the
news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra he was visiting a bookstore in
the Asian city last week when Mugabe’s entourage entered the shop and
he reacted by snapping a picture of a man who was believed to be the
85-year-old African leader.
That allegedly prompted a bodyguard to shove Schulte against a bookshelf and force him to erase the images.
Schulte told TT upon returning to Sweden Tuesday that he turned his
camera’s memory card over to the Riksdag IT support staff for
examination and was told the images can most likely be recovered.
I really don’t know why (I photographed him). It’s just one of those
things that happens, Schulte said. When you realize you’re standing
next to the Hitler of our time, the camera comes out.
