Ex-Warriors speak out

JOHANNESBURG - Some former Zimbabwe national team players have broken their silence on the dropping standards of the national team.

Ex-goalkeeper Muzondiwa Mugadza lambasted Zimbabwe's football administrators for the turn of events.
If Zimbabwe's administrators shared the same vision as their
counterparts in South Africa for example, I am sure our football could
be places. Let us take the example of our failure to just host the
African Nations Cup because we did not meet the standards, said
Mugadza.
The former Amazulu goalkeeper absolved the players and coaches from the blame saying ZIFA did not motivate them to perform well.
The players are like kids put in a sweet shop. When they taste the
sweetness, they perform with their hearts out but once you take away
that, everything drops. So my blame solely goes to the people who are
in the offices, he said.
The retired keeper blamed ZIFA of practising tribalism over the years.
Remember Chris Sibanda (former Premier Soccer League chief executive)
tried to bring a new dimension to the game in Zimbabwe but tribal lines
came into play and he was labelled a Ndebele doing favours for
Highlanders. I thought then our football was going in the right
direction, Mugadza argued.
Former striker and ex-Zimbabwe Footballer of the Year Maxwell Dube concurred.
As long we have poor administration we will never do well. The ZIFA
House needs to be run with former players not people who do not know
anything about soccer, he blasted.
