BULAWAYO----International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has begun supplying food and medicines to prisons in Bulawayo, prison officials said.

Bulawayo has two prisons, Khami and Grey, where, as is the case with every jail in the country, inmates were starving some to death because the government does not have cash to feed them.
An outbreak of disease malnutrition-related illness coupled with overcrowding in the jails prisons had only helped worsen the plight of prisoners.
ICRC has started working at Bulawayo Prisons and are going around all the countrys jails supplying medicine and food Zimbabwe prisons, said Gransinia Masango, the Zimbabwe Prison Services public relations manager.
Masango said prisoners at the two jails were now getting three meals a day after ICRC steeped in with food supplies.
The government last April asked the ICRC for help to improve conditions in jails.
