We well come the decision as a good gesture, but we are looking forward to the end of Gumba-gumbas. Gumba-gumbas are huge marked police vehicles that normally drive around especially on Yeoville and Hillbrow areas picking up anybody who appears to be more darker than the police’s liking.
We hope we shall not be witnessing any vicious chase of Zimbabweans in the streets by members of the police service.
It is our wish to see the closure of the notorious Lindela Repartriation Centre where tales of human rights abuses have been emerging since 2000.
MDC encourages undocumented Zimbabweans in South Africa to take advantage of the situation and formalise their stay by going to Home Affairs office and apply for work permits.
We hope those who would come out would not be arrested at the Home Affairs offices.
