JOHANNESBURG Former Warriors goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro is in the running to win the Goalkeeper of the Year Award in South Africas ABSA Premiership after a run of good form during the just-ended premiership

The former Caps United star was nominated alongside Free State Stars keeper Kennedy Mwene and Calvin Marlin of former champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The ABSA Premiership awards are scheduled for tonight. They come a fortnight after the former Zimbabwe Player of the Year won the Players Player of the Season at his club, Bidvest Wits.

I thank my team mates at Bidvest Wits for voting me Players Player of the Year. I also thank my friends and fans for the support. I feel honoured. I also dedicate this award to my parents who have been there for me through thick and thin, the giant goalkeeper told The Zimbabwean on Sunday.

Murambadoro, who played 22 league matches this season, was a standout performer in Wits commendable campaign, which saw them finish sixth and book a place in the off-season MTN8.

The player has previously turned out for Benoni Premier United and Hellenic in the South African premiership after a spell in Israel.

He quit the Warriors this year following the teams failure to qualify for next year World Cup and the African Nations Cup scheduled for South Africa and Nigeria respectively.
