FRANCISTOWN - A 26-year-old unemployed Zimbabwean man has been denied bail on the grounds that he does not have travelling documents or a permanent residence in this country.

Trust Mpofu was in court for breaking into a nightclub in Tonota last weekend, allegedly stealing disco equipment.

Mpofu is said to have stolen two DVD players, a Gemini disco mixer, 103
compact discs and two CD bags worth P8,950.State prosecutor, Amos
Kebiditswe, argued that the accused be remanded as he has nothing that
stops him from absconding as he is an illegal immigrant.

Kebiditswe said he doubts whether the accused would avail himself when so required by the court. Investigations are ongoing.

Presiding Magistrate, Lorraine Makati-Lesang, wanted to know why the
case should be delayed since all the missing items have been recovered.

The prosecutor said he needed two more weeks."There is crucial
information that has not yet been revealed to me," said Kebiditswe.

The magistrate gave the prosecutor only five days and not the requested two weeks. The case continues on May 19, 2009.
