No visa required Zim, SA

ZIMBABWEANS no longer need visas to enter South Africa for periods of less than 90 days, according to a memorandum of agreement signed by ministers of both countries yesterday.

Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and her Zimbabwean
counterparts General Giles Mutsekwa of the Movement for Democratic
Change and Kembo Mohadi of Zanu-PF said the agreement would help
fight human trafficking, human smuggling and other cross-border
crimes.

Mapisa-Nqakula said proper migration control at the borders will discourage illegal entry into South African by Zimbabweans.

Zimbabwe is the 8th member of Southern African Development Community to sign the agreement.

Zimbabwean departure permits or border passes will now be accepted instead of passports, which cost 175 in that country.

Mutsekwa said: Our people will be joyous back home. Because of this
understanding, it is now possible for Zimbabwean nationals to come to
South Africa freely.

Zimbabweans in South Africa illegally must register with Home Affairs
to receive a six-month special dispensation exempting them from being
deported.
