The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has accused two top Zanu (PF) officials of encouraging teachers to go back on strike.

The unions secretary-general, Raymond Majongwe, told The Zimbabwean, that he was very shocked that Didymus Mutasa, former security minister, and Jeremiah Bvirindi, a Zanu (PF) MP who lost his seat last March, were going around the countrys provinces pushing teachers to go back on strike.

These are same people who use to kidnap, arrest and torture teachers for embarking on strike, said Majongwe. This shows that Zanu (PF) wants to destroy the new unity government.

There are not happy to see MDC raising funds to pay teachers and build the economy. They can see MDC is becoming very strong in government by raising funds to rebuild the nation they destroyed, he added. Majongwe said his union was determined to give the inclusive government a chance and would not be calling for another strike.

Meanwhile, schools in Matabeleland North province have been left with virtually no teachers because of the exodus to South Africa.

Those few teachers who have remained at some schools are temporary teachers who are not qualified, said Vusumusi Sithole, a PTUZ representative in the province.
