All is set for the Midlands North 10th anniversary provincial celebratory rally to be held at Gokwe Centre on Sunday, 28 June, 2009.The MDC is holding provincial celebratory rallies in all the provinces to celebrate the partys 10th anniversary, culminating in a national celebration to be held at White City Stadium in Bulawayo on 13 September, 2009. The anniversary celebrations are being held under the theme, Celebrating a decade of courage, conviction and leadership.
Thousands are expected to turn up in Gokwe where the MDC leadership of excellence will interact with the people and reflect on the 10-year journey the party has travelled. The Midlands North province, especially the Gokwe area, was ravaged by unprecedented State-sponsored violence after the historic elections of 29 March 2008 and some MDC members were brutally murdered while thousands were displaced.
The Acting President, Hon Thokozani Khupe, is expected to give the keynote address as well as feedback on critical issues such as the inclusive government, the Constitution-making process and the outstanding issues which continue to affect the work of the inclusive government. Celebratory rallies have already been held in Midlands South, Masvingo, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces.
