Dynamos in tricky encounter with Highway

desmond_maringwaMUTARE Log leaders and former champions outfit Dynamos clash with unpredictable premiership new boys Highway FC in a league match at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon. DeMbare march into Rufaro Stadium today buoyed by a series of impressive victories under their new head coach Elvis Chuchu Chiweshe who is still to lose a match since he took the hot seat fro

Chuchu stretched his unbeaten streak to an impressive eight matches last weekend after posting a memorable 2-0 victory over city rivals Lengthens in an exciting derby played at Rufaro.

The Glamour Boys as the Harare giants are affectionately known in soccer circles are currently at the top of the log with 29 points after playing 14 matches.

They go into todays match knowing fully well that another victory will work in their favour in as far as the Premiership title is concerned.

On the other hand, premier league action for the Mutare based Highway FC, who are currently lying fourth from bottom on the 16-team log standings, has never been rosy.

Last weekend the boys from Zimbabwes eastern border city of Mutare produced a never-say-die spirit against former champions Highlanders at Sakubva Stadium and managed to salvage a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Highway coach Shepherd Muradzikwa, a former Zimbabwe senior national soccer team and Eiffel Flats midfielder, knows that defeat this afternoon will see the team slide deeper and deeper into the murky waters of relegation.

What makes this match another potential thriller is the fact that both sets of players know each other very well, having played with each other at various levels of competitions in Mutare and Harare.

Former Dynamos players Tofirei Sambo and Romeo Kabesha provide Highway with the experience and direction needed at this level of competition and want to prove to DeMbare faithful that they are not spent forces.

Sambo has been the source of inspiration at Highway, playing a pivotal role in midfield while Warriors trialist Willard Widzo Katsande, arguably the best player at the Mutare side, would want to justify his call up to the senior national team.

For Dynamos, the Sakubva duo of Wonder Sithole, who is playing the game of his life at the moment, and Brighton Tuwaya would want to outsmart their homeboys from Mutare by having a good show.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean on Sunday, Highway mentor Muradzikwa said: We are the same as Dynamos. My players can match the players from Dynamos. We are not going to give respect to Dynamos just because they are at the top of the log. We are going to play our normal soccer. We are underdogs of course but we are going to come up with something. Dynamos are under pressure because they want to maintain their winning streak.

A highly optimistic Muradzikwa added that his team was oozing with confidence after their match against Highlanders last week.

Our players are picking up. They are building confidence and I know that the players themselves are very eager to play Dynamos, so we are ready for the match, said Muradzikwa.
