Maroto grabs limelight

maroto_mangezi_dubeFormer Dynamos striker, Norman Maroto, has so far scored 10 goals for Gunners to take the lead for the prestigious individual award, 2009 premier soccer league top goal scorer, won by Njube Sundowns Evans Chikwaikwai, last season. Maroto who appeared to be no more than excess baggage at Dynamos, last season, continues to enjoy game time at Gunners as

Despite not scoring in their last match against Kiglon, last Monday, Maroto lead the pack with 10 goals followed by Caps Uniteds Nyasha Mushekwi and Dynamos Cuthbert Malajila.

Mushekwi has contributed nine goals of Caps United 18 while Malajila scored the same number of goals to give Dynamos a total of 24.

Maroto left Dynamos at the beginning of the season when former coach, David Mandigora, failed to renew his contract with the Glamour Boys. It appeared the noble decision for a striker who had appeared unreliable, rarely making the first 11 players on the pitch, last season. Yet, it was a rude judgement for a dedicated player who had saved the club with great loyalty, since High School.

But Maroto who may have left the Glamour Boys heartbroken, will certainly consider it a blessing in disguise for his career if he wins the award, at the end of the season.

Chikwaikwai remains strong in the challenge with seven goals of his sides 15 matches, having missed a few due to an injury. He continues to promise fireworks in the upcoming matches having scored a brace against Underhill, last week.
